Condolence: Dear Elizabeth - fond memories of knowing Gordon at Trinity College and his wonderful friendship in those years. My parents loved him when he boarded with them in Hamilton and he was a favourite of Aunt Phyllis. Such wonderful memories.

Condolence: Dear Elizabeth, Julianna and Kate - I didn't know Gordon well, but I remember him fondly. When I started attending the church, he was one of the reasons I stuck around - a church that appealed to someone like Gordon seemed worthy of further consideration! And as I have gotten to know you better over the years, Elizabeth and Julianna, I would say the same of you - that your presence in the church has added to my enjoyment of it. I am thinking of you all.

Condolence: Dear Elizabeth, my thoughts are with you, Kate, and Julianna. I have such lovely memories of Gordon singing in the choir and hosting us for dinner when we were new members at the church. I will always remember him most fondly! Kati Ivanyi

Condolence: So sorry to hear of Gordon's passing. He was a huge part of the Unitarian church in Hamilton, his singing, his careful thought. He will be missed by many. My heart goes out to Elizabeth, Juliana and Kate who have been on this difficult journey with him.

Condolence: So very sorry to hear the news of Gordon's passing. I was a student in the COC program at Sheridan College from 1976-78 and remember Gordon very well. He once told our graduating class that "our" class was his favourite and he presented each of us with a one of a kind ceramic brooch. I still have that brooch. I made many lifelong friends during my years at Sheridan College and I recently commented that it was Gordon who brought us all together. We were lucky to be able to reunite with him a couple of times over the past decades. I will always remember his love of life and his laugh. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Condolence From: The Rev'd. Canon Laurie Duby
Condolence: Beth and family;
Mary-Lou and I are thinking of you all and giving thanks for our memories of Gordon from the sixties at Trinity College and some chance encounters later at some weddings etc. It was good to share meal together at your place and at ours, when both of our families were young.
We are so sorry that our schedules did not allow a get together last fall.
Gord had a very active mind and spirit and always honoured the space of others. He was a true friend.
Sincerely, Laurie and Mary-Lou.

Condolence From: Farrell &Penny Boyce
Condolence: Penny and I have fond memories of Gordon from our time as members of the Hamilton Unitarian Church. Witty, urbane, he was a totally civilized person in the deepest sense, tolerant generous and curious. We loved to hear him sing and I (Farrell) occasionally backed him with my guitar on the American Songbook tunes he so loved. What we did not know was the passage he made from a serious student of Divinity to his outlook as a humanist. A private struggle, it would seem, but one experienced by almost any Unitarian not born into the tribe. It's so often the case that one learns something about a person after their death that reveals an unnoticed complexity and depth.

TREES WE NEVER NOTICE
As the seasons turn
something new arrives,
something leaves or dies
to wonder, to concern,
to melodies of sorrow.
When you were truly gone
and those who knew you better told
the legends of your kindness and your zest,
something holy blazed and we were blessed –
White blossoms on the trees
we never notice.
