Obituary for Helen McKeil

McKeil, Helen (nee Muir) — With saddened hearts, the family of Helen McKeil announces her passing on January 14, at the age of 88.

For over 60 years Helen was married to Doug, who faithfully cared for her during her long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the dear mother of Peggy (Mike), the late Jamie (d. 2003), and Rob (Tricia). Gram will be sadly missed by her five grandchildren Kristin (Matt), Alanna, Shawn (Sarah), Emma and Erin and her three great-grandchildren Scarlett, Ivy and Liam. Helen is survived by her sister Betty Ann Noakes, sister-in-law Betty Muir, many nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA, and a number of cherished friends and neighbours.

Helen and Doug were married in Port Arthur and eventually made their way to Ancaster where they settled to raise their family. They had many adventures while traveling together and enjoyed gardening and golfing. Helen will be fondly remembered as a doting grandmother, an amazing cook, and a beautiful quilter.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Chartwell Willowgrove Long Term Care Residence for the gentle and kind care provided to Helen during her stay. A private family celebration of life will be held. Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to The Salvation Army Mountberry and Meadowlands Adult Day Program or the Hamilton Burlington SPCA.
