The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gordon Beckett can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Farrell &Penny Boyce

Penny and I have fond memories of Gordon from our time as members of the Hamilton Unitarian Church. Witty, urbane, he was a totally civilized person in the deepest sense, tolerant generous and curious. We loved to hear him sing and I (Farrell) occasionally backed him with my guitar on the American Songbook tunes he so loved. What we did not know was the passage he made from a serious student of Divinity to his outlook as a humanist. A private struggle, it would seem, but one experienced by almost any Unitarian not born into the tribe. It's so often the case that one learns something about a person after their death that reveals an unnoticed complexity and depth. TREES WE NEVER NOTICE As the seasons turn something new arrives, something leaves or dies to wonder, to concern, to melodies of sorrow. When you were truly gone and those who knew you better told the legends of your kindness and your zest, something holy blazed and we were blessed – White blossoms on the trees we never notice.
