Obituary for Donald McKay Kennedy

Donald McKay Kennedy
Donald McKay Kennedy, aged 77 years, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer in the late hours of October 3rd at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario with family at his side. He was born on July 14, 1940 in Montreal, Quebec to Donald and Molly Kennedy. Don was a graduate of the Ontario College of Art in Industrial Design. His career began at the Firestone Tire Company in Hamilton, Ontario and then moved into the wine industry, where he spent 40 years in sales & marketing at Jordan & Ste.-Michelle Cellars Ltd., T.G. Bright & Co. Ltd., Vincor International Inc., and Vinexx, as well as a number of consulting roles later in his career. A founder of Stoney Creek Minor Hockey, Don coached in both Stoney Creek and Grimsby for 30 years, leading one team to the All-Ontario Finals. He played Junior hockey for the Grimsby Peach Kings and was a passionate, lifelong Montreal Canadiens supporter. Don loved spending time with his family and friends and sports was his religion - he believed there were a lot of life lessons that could be learned from playing sports. He was a skilled gardener and always enjoyed a good debate. Don is survived by his wife (Wendy), children Donald (Nadine), Kim (Derek), brother Peter (Linda), sister-in-law Janet as well as nieces Mary (Stavros) and Jessica (Stefan), extended family and many friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Love, Dr. Sun, Dr. Phillips, Dr. Lysecki, Dorothy Vaitekunas and the incredible nursing and support team at Joseph Brant Hospital for their care and compassion. Donations to the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation would be sincerely appreciated. A father to some and mentor to many, Don will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday October 12th from 1-5pm at Inn on the Twenty, 3836 Main Street, Jordan, Ontario.
